EPAs - Elders & Pastoral Assistants
Our Nhill Lutheran Parish consists of Elders (St. John's Jeparit) and Pastoral Assistants (St. Paul's Nhill & St. Paul's Woorak) who help the Pastor in his Pastoral Care of families and individuals who come under the care of the Parish. EPAs meet regularly to grow in the Faith through study of God's Word and time in Prayer, together with support for one another and assisting Pastor in the planning of the Ministry & Mission of the Parish.
The Role of an Elder or Pastoral Assistant
These are the responsibilities Elders and Pastoral Assistants are asked to carry out faithfully as they assist the Pastor in his Ministry and for this purpose they shall concern themselves with the spiriutal life of the Congregation and it's members by;
a) Prayer for and encouraging the Pastor, and caring for the spiritual, emotional, and physical health and welfare of the Pastor and the Pastor's family.
b) Visiting members and encouraging them in regular attendance at services, in the use of the Sacraments, and the support of the Congregation and the Church with their means and talents, in prayer, and in involvement in the mission of the Church.
c) Notifying the Pastor of sick and spiritually distressed members;
d) assisting the Pastor in arranging for pulpit assistant, special services, guest speakers, and helping to ensure that an attitude conducive to worship is maintained in the Services.
e) Being an example of Christian conduct and conversation and observing confidentiality regarding all private matters;
f) Serve as confidants and advisers to the Pastor in matters of pastoral care and oversight;
and
g) Support the Pastor in the maintenance of Christian discipline and good order in the congregation.
