WHAT IS TEEN CATC?
Teen CatC is the Confirmation Ministry of the Nhill Lutheran Parish. It is designed to help the young people of our Parish grow in their Baptismal Faith, allowing for the Holy Spirit to prepare them to assume greater responsibility in the life and work of the church, serving the Lord faithfully, as he calls them to work for him. At the completion of Teen CatC participants will stand before God, together with their parents, God Parents, and fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ, confirming the faith implanted at their Baptism, confessing the following;
- Do you reject the devil and everything he does, so that you will no longer be led by him? Yes, I do.
- Do you believe in the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Confess the Apostle’s Creed (without notes).
- Since you are God’s child through holy baptism, do you intent to listen to the preaching of God’s word and to receive the supper of our Lord? Yes, I do.
- Do you intend to remain faithful to the teaching of the Lutheran church, as you have learnt it from Martin Luther’s Small Catechism? Yes, I do.
LEARNING PRE-REQUISITES & EXPECTATIONS:
- To know Luther’s Small Catechism in all it’s parts (The 10 Commandments, The Apostle’s Creed, The Lord’s Prayer, The Sacraments, The Daily Prayers).
- A desire from the student to confirm their baptismal faith and continue in the church beyond the day of their Confirmation.
- Dedication from the parents to support their child’s learning, and growth in their baptismal faith.
- Commitment to completing each week’s pre-lesson preparation, being attentive in class, and applying & reflecting on each week’s learning.
- Should a student be absent a week, they are still to complete the week’s pre-lesson preparation, the online lesson available through the Parish Teen CatC Learning Portal, and post-lesson application & reflection. Should the student miss 3 or more lessons in a Unit, it may place in jeopardy their standing with their peers to confirm their baptismal faith.
- A student is to attend at least one Christian Life Week during the time of this course.
COURSE UNITS:
HOW DOES LEARNING TAKE PLACE?
Teen CatC is designed to happen either Face-to-Face or in a Virtual Online Learning environment. All students are to attend each week’s face-to-face lesson. Alternative arrangements will be made should the student be unable to attend the face-to-face lesson(s). This happens via our online Parish Teen CatC Learning Portal (nhilllutheranparishonline.com/teencatclearningportal.html). Only students enrolled in Teen CatC, and their parents, will have access to this Teen CatC Learning Portal. Introductory videos for navigation around and use of the Teen CatC Portal are made available.
To help students prepare for each week's content, they are introduced to it through pre-lesson videos and questions. This pre-lesson preparation allows more time for deeper exploration of the week's content during the lesson. Following the lesson, students are expected to apply their learning through conversations with their family. They are then to submit reflections of their learning from the previous week and pre-lesson work for the next week's content by 9pm Monday each week (except during holidays).

WHEN CAN I START?
Given the analytical nature of the curriculum, students can start once they are in Yr 7 or above. Express your interest to Pastor or the Nhill Lutheran Parish Office. You will receive the following enrolment forms to complete and submit; Consent & Indemnity Form, Online Code & Conduct, and Virtual Learning Environment Consent. Once the forms have been processed, the student can start with the next new Unit. You will be informed when the next Unit will start.
